Assistant Controller
Description
Crane & Co., Inc., a premier manufacturer of fine stationery and currency papers, is currently seeking an Assistant Controller to assist in the development and maintenance of company-wide budgeting, financial controls, accounting and reporting policies and practices; prepare Company financial consolidations including subsidiaries; manage assigned outside audits; perform an internal audit function; ensure that the Company is up to date on the requirements of FASB and other financial regulations. The incumbent will also provide back up for the Controller.
Specific accountabilities include:
* Direct the efforts of the Accounts Receivable and Payroll staff ensuring that all collections are timely, that delinquent accounts are managed and that payroll (including taxes and benefit deductions) is on time and accurately done
* Prepare the quarterly consolidation for Crane and subsidiaries assuring that Swedish subsidiary statements are accurately translated and adjusted to meet US GAAP requirements. Calculate and report debt covenant status quarterly.
* Provide Company wide internal audit function to ensure adequate procedures and controls that are correctly and consistently applied
* Monitor and prepare adequate responses to changing FASB and GAAP rules and guidelines in the US while staying informed on upcoming changes and working with the Controller and Company auditors to ensure compliance
* Support assigned audits for state sales tax and income tax
Requirements
EDUCATION:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; MBA preferred
* CPA certification
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:
* 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting, with minimum of four of these years in supervisory/management role
* Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and collaboration skills
* Proven ability to lead without direct authority
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Experience working with outside auditors
* Working knowledge of integrated, automated accounting systems such as JD Edwards
* Strong working knowledge of state and federal tax regulations
* Broad organizational perspective and the ability to understand how financial systems impact the overall organization
* CPA certification must be maintained in the position
* Ability to pass and maintain security clearance through U.S. Treasury Department
